Hewletts Update

Just wanted to take some time to update our families and friends about what's going on here in NJ. :) It's been awhile since we've done that I think!

So--here's whats up with us:

(Kim) Well--I have had yet another traumatic week with my teeth. I went in on Saturday for a minor toothache which my dentist thought would be taken care of with a filling, however it ended up needing a root canal. He was unable to work on me since I can't have Novicane, (preggo) and so he put in a temp. filling until I could get an appointment with an endodontist. Unfortunately, my temp filling fell out tuesday night causing me a TON of pain...I was able to get an emergency root canal from the endodontist on Thursday. I had to miss 2 days of work this week from it, and it just made life quite hectic for a week! :(

In good news, I got a promotion last week! I was asked to apply for a leadership position with my school. Basically, the same thing I am doing now (High school advisor) with a little more responsibility and quite a bit more pay! :) It will require me travelling a bit more than now, but I think it will be worth it. I am enjoying it already, but it is a little busy!! It is also nice to have a little more job security in this kind of economy!

(Bryce)

Bryce has been working hard with the church stuff lately. He has mostly been working on expanding and multiplying the worship team, which will be great. It will be nice for him to have a break every other week (eventually), and its great to see other people get to use their gifts musically for the congregation. Also, his cell group is working through Lent and blogging about their experiences. It's pretty cool! You should check it out: http://cohcellgroup.blogspot.com

His beard is growing fast and full and he strokes it incessantly. It drives me crazy, but he loves it. :)

I can't think of anything else that Bryce might like to mention at this point...so B--feel free to add!

(Poppy)

Poppy had an appointment this morning. He or she is doing really well! The doctor believes he or she is about 4 1/2 lbs. right now and has already turned. This is good news. I am doing pretty well with my weight--only gained 19 lbs. so far, and it seems as though Poppy will be coming right on time. (at least, thats what the doctor thinks at this point) This is all coming so fast! It is really surreal to think how much life is going to change so soon. But, I can't wait. I think Bryce is really excited too! We have spent lots of time talking, and going to classes, and reading books...so much to think about--but a really great world that I'm excited to enter!

Dear Poppy,

I want you know that I can't wait to see you. I am currently becoming frustrated by your incessant kicks to my ribs and sternum, and the amount of times you make me use the bathroom in a single day (it's absurd--really), but I can't wait.
I also want you know how scared I am to be your Mom. Will I be as good of a Mom to you as mine has been to me? Will I nit pick and nag at you, like I do to Daddy, or will I let you be free? I want you to know that I am really going to try my best to be decent at this. But, I know I will make a lot of mistakes. Unfortunately, you are our first child...and they say that means you are often the 'experiment'...so we are sorry if we make a decision we think is right at the time, that turns out to be not so great in the long run. Just remember we are doing our best!

There are a few things I have been thinking about that I would like you to keep in mind...

Pray that you get Daddy's teeth--not mine. You will be visiting the dentist far too often if you get mine. So pray for that. I will too.

I'm sorry if Daddy and I embarress you...sometimes we look at each other and say, "Our kid is gonna think you are crazy"...and you are probably right if you think that. But know that we love you, even as nutty as we are/will be.

It's okay to cry. Sometimes I beat myself up over being such a 'cry baby', but I've realized that it's just who I am, and it helps me to truly feel...so if you are one too--don't worry. I'll sit on your bed and cry with you. I promise.

Listen to Daddy's wisdom. I might have a few nuggets of truth for you here and there, but Daddy's got a lot of good things to say--so try and listen when he speaks up.

We're not gonna get a cat. I say this because if you are anything like me, you will really want a cat. But Dad is allergic, and we can't have one without spending way too much money for a hypo-allergenic one. So just don't get your hopes up. You can have a hampster. Maybe.

We want you to be whoever you want to be, and have interests in all sorts of things, but I ask that you don't fall in love with terrible music or video games. I don't know if I could stomach them. [No offense Rob. But if our kid does like video games, he/she will only be allowed to play them with you. :)]

Don't be a picky eater...PLEASE!!

You can tell Daddy and I anything. We want you to know that. Just remember that we can't just be your friend. We do have a responsibility for you--so sometimes we might have to make decisions to protect you that you may not love. We'll take these as they come.

Don't get mad at us if you don't like your name. A lot of thought is going into your name choice, and you will understand the headache when you are expecting a child one day!

You have a world of people that already love and adore you, and you are not even born yet. Remember how lucky you are, and lean on these people. They will be your strength. You will know who they are early one.

We love you,

Mommy (and Daddy)

A Few "Baby" Comments to Share

Some people have asked, so I figured I would put it on here. We ARE indeed registered...at babyearth.com and a little bit at Babies R Us. Babyearth is a great little site with all sorts of sweet baby products that aren't as commonly found at they big baby superstores. I like that they are a little different and more eco-friendly.

Also--we have decided we are going to be cloth diaper-ers. I was turned on to cloth diapering by a friend I work with and she taught me the ropes...I really think it's a great thing--especially for us cheapo's that hate spending money! And the fact that they are environmental friendly is a big plus. Babyearth is one of the few places we have found that actually carries cloth diapers that we like, so that is another reason we chose to order from there. You can just go to Babyearth.com and click on Registry & Wishlist at the top of the page, and type in Kim Hewlett. You should see our registry pop up!

**P.S.: This is not a plug to tell you to buy us gifts!! I have just had many questions from family and friends about where we are registered/why we registered where we did so I thought I'd share! And--any of you expecting moms that are looking for a good, different place to register--you should check out babyearth. I have been impressed. :) Just read the reviews carefully if you are afraid of ordering things online without seeing them first...

Our Adventures in Florida

Well, we're back from Florida, but we have lots of stories!! So--here goes. We got to Florida on tuesday evening...for those of you who don't know, my dad lives in Palm Harbor, which is just outside of Clearwater. We decided that we were in need of a mini-vacation before Poppy comes, and it seemed like just the time. The sun seemed to know we were coming too--as the temp. rose from 50-something on Tuesday, to 70 on Wednesday when it was our first day there!

My dad also works for the Phillies for Spring Training, so we definitely got the 'hook-up' for a couple days...free parking, free admission, and basically seats anywhere in the house. One day, just above the dugout, another--on the left field line down on the field, and another up above first base. So fun! We also got to meet a couple of the players and see them all up so close.

We also got a day on the boat...in the Gulf of Mexico and spent some time on a little island exploring, fishing, and looking for dolphins and manatees...no luck though. :(The water was a little cold and choppy...

We spent a lot of time with family...some of my uncles, my cousins, my dad...we also got to see my two cousins at gymnastics practice, and in a soccer tournament. It was a really great trip!

Last night, we flew home...turns out, they overbooked our flight--we ended up in first class! So fun. We were referred to as Mr. and Mrs. Hewlett all night...and got to snack on Milano cookies instead of peanuts or pretzels. Haha--we lived it up a bit. :) Lots of pictures up...so scroll thru and check them out! ; ) Enjoy--and don't be too jealous.
Bright House Field--such a great field!

My daddy on the field!

Dobbs on base. He is a good looking man, by the way!
Just a day at the ballpark...sitting just above the dugout. :)

Coach Charlie Manuel made an appearance...

Jamie Moyer. He signed our ball...

Bryce insisted on wearing those gross, massive sunglasses. I hated them.

World Series MVP: Cole Hamels
Cole Hamels signed my ball!

Ryan Howard...and some of the others...he is a huge man!
Having a dad working for the Phils got us some sweet inside access. Here we are sitting right where the Phils players came out...in left field. Great seats!

The American World Baseball Cup Team up to bat...probably the closest we'll get to Derek Jeter.

So fun to find sand dollars! This one is about 75 cents of one... haha.

Pretty Clearwater beach...well--this is actually an island in the middle of the gulf of Mexico.

So sweet, right?

Bryce--"waaaaading in the water, children..." He sang this for about an hour.

My little hermit crab friend...I thought it was a shell and when I picked it up all of his legs came creeping out...
My cousins: Allie, and Katie.

Lovely.

Bryce was feeling left out of the cousin fun...

Gulf of Mexico...our last little vacation before Poppy comes!
